Prosthetic Contact Lenses:

Prosthetic Contact Lenses are used to hide the disfigurements of the cornea and improve their appearance. There are many conditions for which the eye may have this. It could be from a medical condition, and injury, or an infection. The types of lenses used can be gas permeable or soft.

There is approximately two percent of the population whom have vision problems, birth defects, unsuccessful eye surgery, or from an eye injury.

Those eye conditions:



Albinism
- This is a lack of pigment in the iris that results in light sensitivity.

Amblyopia (lazy eye)- forcing the lazy eye to work

 

Aniridia

This is the absence of the iris.

Diplopia (double vision)

 Which can be due to many things. It may be corrected with opaqued contacts with a small pupil hole, in certain types of esotropia which, is the eyes turning inward.

 

Fixed, dilated pupil- Is the increased sensitivity to light.

Heterochromia

 There are two different colored irises.

Iridectomy

 When a piece of the iris has been removed to address a different ocular affliction, leaving a hole.

 

Iris Coloboma

 This is an embryotic tissue defect where the iris is not fully developed and pupil can appear irregular.
